School Day: All students must be in their first class by 8:45 A.M. Dismissal is at 3:00 P.M.

On arrival: The building is not accessible to students prior to 8:00 AM. Students should plan to arrive to school between 8:30 A.M. – 8:40 A.M. Those who arrive to school before to 8:30 A.M. should report to the cafeteria. Grade 5 and Grade 6 students will report to the First Floor Cafeteria. Grade 7 and Grade 8 students will report to the Third Floor Cafeteria; Assistant Principals will be located in each of these locations for supervision.

Breakfast:  Any student who wishes to purchase breakfast can do so in the First Floor Cafeteria and eat in the assigned section.

Tardiness: Students arriving at school after 8:45 must go to the office for a tardy slip before proceeding to homeroom or to a class that is in progress.

Early dismissals: Students who must be dismissed from school early (to go to a doctor appointment, for example), must report to the office in the morning on arrival with a signed note from their parent or guardian explaining the reason for the early dismissal and the time that the student will be picked up. The note must be brought to the office secretary, who will give the student a dismissal slip to present to the teacher when the student is leaving early. A parent or guardian should meet the student in the Briscoe office at the early dismissal time.

Staying late: Students may stay in the school building after 3:00 if they are with a teacher for extra help, participating in extracurricular activities, or working in the library. Students may not remain in the building if they are not with a teacher or other staff member.

Late bus: There is a late bus that leaves at 3:50 pm most days and drops students off throughout the city. It is only for use by students who already ride the bus AND who are getting extra help or participating in clubs or activities should be utilizing the late bus.

Early release days: On certain days, all students may have a early release time due to holidays or for teachers to meet with parents for parent afternoon back. On these days, there will be no after-school activities or late bus. Students are expected to leave the building promptly at the early release time. These times may vary and will be listed on the school calendar and through other communications.

Pickup and Dropoff: We ask that parents and caregivers follow established procedures for dropping off their students and picking them up. It is important to follow these procedures for the safety of all! Click here for an update that was made to the Balch St. traffic patterns in November 2018.

Students taking the bus will be dropped off for school in front of the outdoor learning area in the morning. Buses will be lined up in the same area at the conclusion of the day to pick up students to go home in the afternoon.

See the BPS transportation page for more information about bus routes and signing up to take the bus.
